I'm a 20 yr old college student living in Ohio with a clean record before I was recently charged with an underage consumption and was sent to jail for 12 hrs. I have court in three days. What will they do to me? What kind of fees and how much should I be expecting to pay? How bad is an underage consumption on my record? Will it stay on there forever? Do you have any tips or advice for me?

It is probably only a misdemeanor, which is not that serious. You are an adult and the record will be there forever, but you might be able to get it expunged later on-providing you complete your sentence without trouble and are able to keep your record clean.

Talk to legal aid (either the county's or your school's) they will explain everything to you.

In the order I feel like answering:
Yes, it will always be on your record. no, it won't make much difference on its own. A potential employer that sees this will probably just recall how often they didn't get caught. If this is a first offense, you will probably get the proverbial slap on the wrist.

PS: You were NOT sent to jail for 12 hours. You were held while they processed the paper work and scheduled your court date.

IGNORE Kevin K about expunging your record. The cost is MUCH more than it is worth for underage drinking. NO ONE cares enough to justify hiding it.

The judge might ask you why you were drinking and give you a speech.
I don't know what the cost is, never drank till I was old enough.
