what year of car...check belts first.it could be voltage regulater on older car..when car is running if you take off positive battery cable without stereo wipers etc.it should stay running with a good alternater..when running the rear of alternater should be magnetized..those are just my pre 90's backyard hillbilly fixes for Chevy's...you might have to go back to the factory am/fm without beefing up your electrical

Get yourself a battery load tester . If it saves you one battery or one alternator, it'd be worth it. It's one of the best investments I've made. I linked one below. Borrow one if you have to, get it done at a shop even. It will tell you the state of your charging system, battery and alternator, all in about a minute.
My 4.3 Chevy does that same thing when I have my heater on high. At an idle, it can't keep up to the demand. I have too much draw on the system.

Have you ever had the to jump start the car at any time. If you have and the other car is running when you connect to 2 together this may or may not damage your diodes inside of your alternator. But it really sounds like you need to tighten your alternator belt.

its sounds like when you are driving high or mid throttle like on the high way or whatever
that the alternator is doing its job
and when you come to a stop its not
make sure that your connections are good and make sure your belt and belt tensioner are within spec
it sounds like your engine/alternator is having to work harder to charge your battery
like i said just check your belt and connections

COULD BE BOTH IF YOUR ALTERNATOR HAS GONE BAD ITS DRAINING YOUR BATTERY TO THE POINT IT MIGHT NOT RECHARGE, OR COULD BE A GROUNDED WIRE, IDE GO TO YOUR LOCAL AUTO STORE THEY CAN CHECK ALL THAT FOR YOU, NO CHARGE

would recommend your local auto parts store they will usually
test battery and starting/charging system for free. find out what's wrong before spending money.
