Holding price and screen size constant, which of these is a better machine? I can't really see any visible difference?

the difference between shared and dedicated memory is big meaning:
a graphic card with a dedicated memory of x amount of MB means that card actually have that x amount of memory on board and it is the only hardware that have access/use that memory meaning at any point in time when that card needs memory it will always be availble for it

but when u get a shared memory that means that the x amount of memory is shared between deifferent hardwares for different uses meaning/there will be the time when ur graphic card need all the memory for its self but it will not be availbe to it due to the fact that it is being used for some other purposes, hope tht helped

Dedicated video card memory is WAY better then shared. Shared uses some of your system memory for video processing (the CPU also has to process video making your pc run slower). Dedicated is faster because there is a seperate processor just for video, thus freeing up your CPU making your PC run much faster.

VGNAR630E is better, because it has dedicated graphic memory, that means it won't share with the motherboard.

dedicated is better because shared feeds on of your system ram

i for one would get neither. they are sony's and they have blueray drives. sony backs blue ray and sony hate anti-copy rights. so, the whole laptop is fill with files that will not let u copy anycd/dvd with sonys label on it.
