Im getting an Asus M2N-E sli , and this thing has no vga port. im getting a graphics card for this, and im just wondering- will anything on my screen show up when booting for the first time? because how do i dont have drivers YET installed and im fearing that nothing will pop out in my screen.

Will i still be able tosee windows screen after installing OS, before installing my graphics card driver?

Windows will use the generic video drivers on the OS boot up.
The DOS video drivers on the system boot up.

If there's a graphics card in the machine it'll boot up fine and either display the lowest quality settings or a higher quality that will likely jump as you scroll since it's a default driver (always does the latter on mine).

Just install the manufacturers driver as soon as you can (best to get the latest from their website) and it'll work perfectly....but in the mean time it'll work well enough for you to finish installing the os and drivers.

Edit - Metallic moment: When you're building your own PC you can build it to your own specifications: choosing how many USB ports, number of sata ports in various RAID configurations....

Better looking case with greater air flow and No Screws design (the pre-built ones are usually cramped inside making upgrading a nightmare all because it's cheaper for them and they want you to send it to them to upgrade so they can charge you an arm and a leg just to install some ram which is no more than a 5 minute job)....

Memory configurations - two ram sticks of the same specs are better than the standard one ram stick since you gain speed in dual channel mode.....and they may advertise a system as dual channel but they're sometimes referring to the fact that the motherboard supports the configuration not that it has two ram sticks.)

Also the experience of build your own pc is most useful, if something goes wrong with it then you're more likely to be able to fix it yourself by finding and replacing the damaged component. I've saved myself hundreds of pounds by knowing how to build a pc.

Besides the companies that pre-build pc's usually skimp out on less noticed components such as motherboards and they'll bung in the cheapest possible one with as few features possible. Dell is also known for choosing motherboards that aren't over clocking friendly.

yes, just attach your graphics card into the proper slot and attach your monitor to the card. if you installed the card correctly, you'll see your normal boot up sequence. once you enter your os, install the drivers that came with the card. njoy

OMG why are you doing this to yourself? It sounds like a total nightmare. You can buy cheap, powerful computers at Walmart online. HP is a good one with 2 gigs of RAM and a huge hard drive and all the other bells and whistles totally installed and at your fingertips. Leave building computers to the geeks. I found most of them haven't a clue either. Sorry for not being more supportive of your venture but computers are pretty complicated so don't go there unless of course you like screaming for help at Yahoo.

most motherboards will have some built in graphics card to make boot up possible..

I think i used the same MB when I built mine, and it worked fine.
