All the sites I've been reading to make snowglobes with my class of kiddos says to add this or that to help the glitter fall more slowly. I'm having exactly the opposite problem, my glitter FLOATS in water. I've tried both white and silver. Any ideas?

You can also try mixing the water up to 50% with mineral oil (the stuff found in the laxative aisle is thinner than "baby oil"), clear cooking oil, or perhaps corn syrup? (the sugar in it is also a preservative?)... as well as glycerin**. Some people also use alcohol in the mix.

**glycerin can be purchased in a drug store, but will be expensive for lots of snowglobes... if you're making a lot, try the other suggestions above, or buy a large amount of glycerin at an animal feed store where it's sold for horses hooves

Also, plastic floats so if using plastic glitter, don't use the largest particles, or anything that might contain even a bit of air.

There are more recipes for snowglobe liquids (and lessons on how to make snowglobes in general) on this page of my site, if you want to check them out:

Best of luck and have fun!

Did you add glycerin to your water? It cannot be made with just water alone, but you only need a small amount added.
