I start with pen and paper. At the top of the paper I take the pen and write the title of the poem.

Whenever I name a poem, I usually use a name that gives away a little bit of the main idea and imagery of the poem. For example, I once a wrote a poem about my dad drinking when we would go fishing when I was a little kid, and a lot of the imagery in it involved the rocking of the boat, which was paralleled by what my dad's vision and mindset must have been when he was drunk, which would also be wobbly. I named the poem "Sway" after that, giving the reader a little idea of what's to come. I think naming a poem is just as hard as actually writing it. There aren't any rules to follow when naming a poem, I just like to focus on giving the reader an idea. Just like naming an essay.

If you're writing a sentence that contains the title of a poem, the convention is to enclose the title in quotation marks. Like this:

Robert Frost wrote "Mending Wall" in blank verse, but he used rhyme in "The Road Not Taken."

If your talking about writing your own title, then pay attention to the answer above, if you just want to know how to correctly place a poem's name in an essay or story, you put parentheses around it.

well for poetry you cant really write a wrong statement because its your personal oppinions. when i name things, i write my entire poem, then readit.just think about it. how does it make you feel what does it convey, does it reel you in?pick out what it reminds you of or what you think of and make that the title. if you write a title ,then write the poem, it has to follow the title perfectly or it wont make sense.
