I am assuming you are not a native American.
Have you not seen photos of the oil and gas field in California and Texas and Wyoming?
Have you not seen photos of the offshore rigs in the Gulf of Mexico?
The US has been producing petroleum products for nearly a century.

We've done it for so long, we've taken all the easy stuff. Fields have been depleted.
Peak oil production in the US occured around 1970. The max was less than 4 billion barrels year. We're now down to under 3.
It ain't because of restrictions on drilling. We could drill everywhere on land and along our coasts. No oilman thinks we'd see almost 4 again.
By the way, we consume 7. We can't drill our way out of this, we need to conserve and develop alternative energy sources.

We do. Texas, Alaska, California, Pennsylvania, Wyoming, Colorado, Montana, Gulf of Mexico, etc.
LOTS of places in the US have oil reserves.
Remember Hurricane Katrina shutting down drilling platforms? The Alaska Pipeline? The debate about drilling in the ANWR? The Exxon Valdez? The reason why Texas seems to have a lot of oil-related business (the Bush family?)?

Hmmm. I thought the first oil well in the world was drilled in PA. And we've been drilling ever since from the Gulf of Mexico to northern AK.
But why not use up the Arab's oil first? Just asking.

We have been drilling oil in the US for over 100 years. A better question is why don't we work to ween ourselves off of oil?

well this may not answer your question exactly but i can tell you that there are democrats who protest against the drilling in alaska because of the endangerment of the caribou. (it is currently not an endangered species) but we have been drilling in america but i think that its a little funny how we are in a serious crisis for finding oil and we have it but we dont use it because of the caribou.

um we do.....it's just that we keep ours as reserve oil in case we won't be able to get it from oversees one day. In that event the US government will be the first (and probably) only sector to get & use it! Not to mention that there's just a lot more oil in other parts of the world & not much here in the US

Too many environmentalist wackos who want to keep OPEC in control. While we do some drilling we could do a lot more if we were allowed to, but we are too afraid to drill here. We let other countries "ruin" their environment so we don't have to see it or think about it with our little bleeding liberal hearts.
