Rather than buying it each time I go visit?

Sure. You can buy it by the year. It is way cheaper. I use to buy one that covered an unlimited number of visits to the US as long as any single trip was under 2 weeks (might have been slightly longer) It was through TD (bank/Insurance) Now I am back to getting travel coverage through my work package. But you should be able to get it anywhere that has travel insurance.

It's handy, it was about the price of 2 trips to the US. And I didn't have to worry about insurance for every last minute trip I made. Especially if it was a road trip and I wasn't booking stuff.

The trouble is, once you paid it, they wanted to renew it every year. So, you may want to not to pay by credit card, so it is easier for you to cancel if you don't want it anymore.
