Well it is. Without California you wouldnt have movies to watch or internet. Both of which are worldwide. Nothing else in USA can say that except for maybe New York and the stock market. Stanford is in California so any cures or vaccines created in USA are most likely going to be invented by people in California. Theres 3 kinds of people in this country, those who live in California, those who wish they did, and those who are too dumb to know its better then where they live or care. WHAT DO YOU THINK?

I should also state that I have only lived in California for 4 years. Lived in Florida most of my life and spent the past 8 months in Thailand. So its not like Im picking it because its my hometown or anything and I definately am moving out of USA but its the best place in USA and anybody who lives here and disagrees is spoiled and has the "grass is greener on the other side" syndrome.

This question was based on the importance of California, not what its like to live there.

California is definately the most beautiful state (Bay Area, im not speaking for southern). Its the only place that you can ski and surf on the same day, go to lake tahoe, yosemite, old faithful, death valley, wine country, san francisco and los angeles, go to santa cruz boardwalk and watch free music on the beach while riding a roller coaster, go to santa monica pier, have your choice in fast food of In and Out Burger, Carls Jr, Weiner Schnitzel, Sonic, Jack in the Box, El Pollo Loco, and all those other usual boring places like subway, mcdonalds and burger king too. Plus you still have Las Vegas, and Mexico all in your backyard.

They are the dumbest drivers Ive ever seen and there is alot of traffic, but thats obviously because they accept everybody (most of the bad drivers come from other countries like in asia where you drive on the other side of the street) and if theres lots of traffic, that means theres lots of people.....gee I wonder why so many people are in California, if its such a bad place?

I live in California, and I hate it. It's so crowded with people, always traffic, filled with dumb ignorant people, not that pretty, and its always sunny and hot. Sure you can state that all of these wonderful things come from California but fact is that they can be made or distributed anywhere else in the world. California is just a busy and bustling place.

You forgot the fourth type of person.

Those that don't want a fascist government that over taxes you while forcing you to pay billions to support those that are breaking the law. Not to mention, house values that are out of whack with the average man's salary. And we can't forget living with constant threats of earthquakes, tsunamis, wildfires and of course, celebrities, their BS and the paparazzi.

Grow up. California is an OK place to visit, but you could not pay me to live there.

Finally, many of the modern medical cures have been found by scientists at the U of M, Harvard and Yale, just to name a few. Stanford does not have the lock on it.

So, now that you have bashed the majority of the country, what is your point? I take it when the "big one" comes, you won't be asking the rest of us (that are too stupid) to ante up with taxes and aid now will you?

Movies are filmed around the world every day. There are internet providers around the world as well. If California disappeared tomorrow neither one would be completely gone, just slightly disrupted for a few days.
There are many fine universities and medical centers throught the rest of the world.
As for three types of people, you are correct, but it goes like this instead.
"There are three types of people in California, fruits, nuts, and flakes."

For all I care, California can float away if it were to break away from the physical U.S. Pollution, bad drivers, and Paris Hilton. You, my friend, are very arrogrant, yet proud of your state. However, your state happens to be rampant with corruption, sluts, dumb politicans, and wasted money. Are you insinuating that people like Lindsay Lohan, Paris Hilton, and Britney Spears (CA residents) are going to invent cures?? Bahaha. More like need them. Every important for a reason. Georgia is home to Atlanta (CNN, civil rights movement, Hartsfield-Jackson Airport). New York and Los Angeles hold a lot of the nation's business.

Like the song goes, "We got more bounce in California"..... New York is important but not as cool, Massachusetts is smart but not ambitious; Illinois is hardworking but not outgoing. The 7th largest economy in the world.... that says it all.
