Steel Head: I think one of the big US tool makers moved to the Carribian

I heard Tom Tamcredo say this last night from on the Youtube Republican Debate.

The problem is you CAN'T buy anything that's manufactured in America Today. All our factories shut down in the 1970's and moved to China, Taiwan or South Korea.

RCA and Motorola are Japanese, US Steel moved out of Pittsburgh and Detroit cars will be next.

The only things we manufacture in the US are overpriced drugs.

There are a few (very few) US toolmakers left. As my company makes a product they use, I can tell you most are now gone.

Harley Davison motorcycles (my acorn nuts end up there!) and the Toyota Camry are the two most American made transportation things left.

Even Mott's Apple Juice has Chinese content.

And we are NOT the "manufacturing capital" of the world. Very quietly over the past 3 or 4 years nearly 1/5 of our manufacturing has disappeared.

Yes you can buy American, but it will cost you dearly. With energy, food and insurance costs going through the roof, who the heck can afford to?

The folly of our ways will become apparent to all in the next year or so. Even Wall Street won't be able to skew the statistics anymore.

Impossible almost to buy electronic with 100% componets because the power supply could be made vietnam, and the packaging in Arizona, and the plastic moldings in Thailand, and then the testing of the products in China so it hard to detemine if you are really buying American. Need to fund customs service and start being like the Japanese and take Chinese made products and inspect them piece by piece. Second, you have requirement of cretification papers indicating the source of the chemicals used to make the product. Its non tarriff way of saying, will make getting your cheap subpar products pain to reach store shelves or ban the item.

In the end, the losers with tarriffs, and import qoutas, captial control, and quarntines are the poorest income earners. Yet, they are first to lose jobs with trade and globalization. Safety net for workers in America sucks and the populist demaouges will rule the day instead of pramagist that increase the safety net of layoff workers so we still open up trade.

The basis of a robust economy is manufacturing, mining, farming and fishing. That is natural resources and added value. Over the past four presidencies, we've ignored that fact. Our remaining hope is that the weak dollar will reduce imports and force Wall-Mart shoppers to buy American....or at the very least from friends of America.

Yeah, I had a hard time tracking them down, but I finally found out who made the lock for my front door.

When the knob initially broke, I said to myself, well it should be an easy fix and off I went to Lowe's. I showed them the lock and they laughed, and said that lock was made in the USA, we don't carry them anymore. So needless to say, every place that I went too had the same story, we don't carry it.

Well then I thought about the venue that Gore had invented, so I went on-line and looked for the maker of the lock, and low and behold, they existed.

The original lock cost 834 dollars. So when I told the lady my problem, she said "that lock is guaranteed for life" and she send me a brand new knob.

I try to buy American whenever I can. You can find tons of things made in America. We are still the number one manufacturing country, you just have to know where to look. Don't go to wal-mart.

You would be surprised what is still made in this country. I began two years ago not buying Chinese, so I check all labels. You can do it, it just takes a bit of work.

The idea is to buy that which is manufactured in the US.

Though some goods are still manufactured here, we can hope to see more if the USD can be made weak enough.
