They'll eat almost anything fish, or aquatic reptiles will eat. Mine had a staple diet of turtle sticks and pellets, but also ate bloodworms, enriched brine shrimp, blackworms, and small earthworms.

The reason the other answerer's axolotls didn't eat as well in summer is that the water temperature was probably too warm. The most difficult part of keeping axolotls, and keeping them healthy, is to give them a cool water temperature - it should be around 65o, and most tanks get too warm for them. They also need very low water movement so the dissolved oxygen in the water stays relatively low - otherwise, they begin to lose their external gills.
