Ok, so, I have a laptop, or as I like to say, the craptop. I try to play games on it, but they run ALL SO BADLY. Can anyone recommend some good graphics cards for laptops. I've read all of the other questions, and I don't know if I have a PCI port or whatever it is. Also, does the type of maker of the computer work? My laptop is a Compaq, but runs Windows XP. Thanks!

Buy a new laptop (your laptop does not have a PCI slot or AGP slot or PCI-e slot so you won't be able to actually put a graphics card in it).

The graphics chip is probably soldered onto the motherboard (and it was only really designed for business applications where it is more than fast enough).

Sadly, about 99% of laptops released you CANNOT change the video card in it. Also, since laptops are designed for mobile computing on the go and not games..... Don't expect much from playing games on it.

Also, you need to have a balanced system to get some games running fast, for example, even if you have a laptop that has a Core 2 Quad processor with a GeForce 8800GTX Ultra, you will still have terrible performance if you only have 512MB of RAM.

As for fast laptops, I can only suggest Alienware (http://www.alienware.com) laptops. However, they are quite overpriced. So what I suggest is look at the specifications on the laptops found in that site and look for similar ones on other websites.

You really have no choice. You can help things a LITTLE if you stop those resource devouring applications from running at the same time. Is the task bar full of icons? R-click on them one by one and stop them.

Buying more RAM will help a little, if you're not at 512M already, but some Compaq's are restricted as to the max they can take.

Most likely it is time for a new machine. Rethink your needs - a laptop is not as upgradable as a desktop .

Check out Compaq's site for more info as your laptop might not have a slot for a vidcard.A laptop video card is not the same as a desktop cpu video card, and most laptops have intigrated video or on board video that is shared meaning using your laptop ram to run the video.
