Canada in an off move decides to build nuclear weapons - (we already have power plants or I'd use that as my hypothetical situation ) The US and Canada say it is for security of the continent and Russia says it is for an attack on Russia to compliment the missle shield which is equally offensive as it is defensive
Russia then leads the charge of UN sanctions - which the US a security council member veto's repeatedly Russia does a pre- emptive strike on Canada Canada is of course right next door to the US and supplies a lot of oil to the Americans and there are a lot of economic ties to the US and Canada .Canada responds by throwing rotten fruits at the Russians and beer bottles Ironically a few Russian battalions are taken out by hockey pucks but is clearly no match for the Russian's What would the US do about that ?Sit back and say so the Russians are at our door step Oh well ?Russia is bounded isn't that far from Iran - Iran and Russia share the Capian Sea the size of Lake Ont

The U.S. has not proceeded with it's scheduled air attack on iran precisely out of fear of the probable response by Putin; he hinted broadly at the consequences of such an action in a little-known ( in the west) but much-heeded by the administration broadcast of Arabic radio.

The difference is that Canada has never sworn to destroy Israel, or any other sovereign nation. So, of course, we prepare to go to war on behalf of our frozen friends up north. Russia, knowing that they will be destroyed, back down. Unlike the Islamo-facists, the Russians don't have a death wish, and they still understand the concept of mutually assured destruction.

And the fruits in Canada are not rotten. They're frozen solid. Formidable weapons, actually!

The only problem with your analogy is that Iran isn't even developing nuclear weapons! Bush is going to commit an illegal preemptive invasion of Iran because Iran is building nuclear energy plants.
If Canada were only developing plants for producing electricity (yes, I know they already have them) and Russia invaded, it would obviously be an illegal war.
Likewise, if Canada allowed Russia to place anti missile defense system on the Canada-U.S. border, Bush would be losing his mind!
The neocons will invent some flimsy excuse to invade Iran. I'm deliberately saying 'invade' because the Bush govt. isn't just planning on surgical strikes to take out Iranian nuclear assets. They're planning regime change in Iran and that requires occupation.
It's also critical for people to understand that Iran wants democracy in Israel to include all Palestinians, who are not allowed to vote right now. If Palestinians could vote, they'd take over the country politically, rename the country to "Palestine", thereby erasing Israel off the map! In other words, Iran didn't literally say they wanted to wipe Israelis off the map. They were talking about Israel as a political entity.
