If you don't try, you will never succeed. This could relate to anything. If you want a relationship, but never make a move to meet anyone, you won't have a relationship. If you want to make a billion dollars, but you lay around the house instead of working, you will never see the million dollars.
Without effort, we stay in the same place. To progress to higher levels of satisfaction in life, we have to actually DO SOMETHING. Nothing will come from doing nothing. Something will come from doing something.
In college, I had a phrase on my goal book for life, and it was "If its to be, its up to me." Can't recall who actually wrote it, but it has inspired me to reach out and make my life the way I want it to be. Hope this sort of answers your question.
