Often times it is because of their lack of self esteem. They feel something lacking so they make up for that by putting others down rather than raise themselves up. A person who has good self esteem without being arrogant doesn't need to put others down to make them feel better about themselves.

Because they mean to show people that "they" themselves are not dumb, which in my opinion makes them the dumbest smart alecs ever!

I think it's funny wen ppl point out how retarded i am. I mean, im really smart at school stuff, but i hav no common sense, so i think its funny wen ppl point out how stupid i am (it dont hurt my feelins cuz i kno they're just kiddin). I think its rude wen ppl do that just to hurt some1's feelins tho.
