to find out if you are on people's contacts list?

I think they are listed as "fans" on your main page.

Yes. They will show up under your own "fan" listing. Just click onto your avatar, scroll down to your "contacts" area, and click on the thumbnail for "fans".
If there is someone on your "fans" list that you do not WANT to be there (because "fans" have access to all your question and answer information), then all you have to do is float your cursor over their picture and click on "block this user". This will remove them from your fan list, and make sure that they do not regain access to your question and answer lists.

i do not know of any unless you had kept track of when yahoo told you that so and so added you as a contact!!! seems like every day someone wants to add me and when i look at there profile to see what question i might have answered to see if i could figure out why -- your guess it the Q/A are private!!!
edit looks like tony is right i have a whole shpt load of fans --think i charge any thing for being a fan!!!

go to your profile by clicking on "my profile" in the upper right hand corner of the question page.
scroll all the way to the bottom, and you will see your contacts, the next tab says FANS click on this and it will show everyone who has made you one of their contacts.

Well I just clicked on your picture and could see all yours. so i assume it works in the reverse. unless they are under fans and those i could not see on your profile page. hope your son is ok
