It is taking for ever for my house to sell and someone brought up the idea of me renting it out until it sells.

Can that be done.. How does it work with the renters.

Is it a good idea.?

You can try that angle, but renters aren't usually thrilled about putting up with showings where they live, and may not rent if they know it's for sale and that they will have to move out if it sells. Of course, you could offer a lease, but then the new owners have to contend with the lease and renters until the lease expires.

Also consider that renters may well 'talk down' the house if prospective buyers show up, so that it won't sell and they won't have to move.

If you're considering renting, in other words, take it off the market. Do one or the other.

You can do a month to month. Just be sure to inform them the place is up for sale. And set specific dates to show the house.

You can look into a rent with the option to buy.

Bad part - Some renters can be pretty messy and with you trying to sell the home they may not keep the house as clean as it should be.
