Stay on a schedule, such as, wake at 6am, sleep at 9pm.

Exercise for at least 30 minutes a day.

Eat balanced meals and avoid caffeine after 4pm.

Do something that relaxes you for 30-1 hour before you lay down, like watch a little TV, read a book, listen to light classical music, etc. This will help your brain and thinking whind down before you go to bed.

Then lay down at your scheduled time, no lights, no TV, no music, cell phone off, nothing that would distract you.

You should get about 8-10 hours of sleep each night. If you are getting 8-10 hours of sleep it is likely that it isn't that you need more sleep, the quality of sleep you are getting probably isn't good enough. If you eat right (for the most part), exercise daily, and avoid sleep interruptions then you should start to feel better.

Drink warm milk and/or eat a turkey sandwich just before going to bed, as someone else said, exercise, don't eat late, drink some chamomile tea before going to bed, etc, etc.
