Humans have some weird ideas about evil and not evil. I think it has to do with dualism in religion.

If 10 people are stranded somewhere without any food or resouces and 5 of them die of starvation, I would expect the other 5 to eat them. I would not consider that evil. But, others probably would.

Evil is a manmade concept, by the way.

Every social species has evolved its own code of social conduct. In some species, that code can vary across several cultures. In most (if not all) human cultures, maternal cannibalism is considered taboo. Therefore, those who engage in it are shunned by other humans.

In some species, maternal cannibalism has evolved to be acceptable under certain circumstances, so animals that do so are not shunned by the others.

In a nutshell, rules of right and wrong are not universal across species. In some species maternal cannibalism is accepted, and in others it is not.

We are the highest form of God's creation. Made in the image of God.

Scientist would say because we have a intelligent minds and can distinguish between right and wrong in our consciousness, and most of all we have choice. You choose to do something no matter the outcome. If you fail to plan you plan to fail. Maybe circumstances have happened to you that are less favorable than others that have caused it to become easier for you to make that choice to fail to plan. But the essence here is that you still have a choice. Animals can reason on that high of a level, and no the difference and explain.

Actually a famous case of cannibalism occurred I believe around 1972 in the Andes mountain when a small airplane carrying a soccer team crashed and when it became obvious that they were not going to be rescued, many of the survivors resorted to cannibalism. This true event was documented in a book and movies both of which were titled "Alive".

Because evil is a moral concept used to describe decisions made by creatures that make conscious choices. Most people do consider nonhuman animals capable of that. Of course, what is evil is subjective. Thus, YOU could consider it evil of nonhuman animals to do it or not evil of human animals to do it.
