for the past few years i have, on occasion, had dizzy spells where everything goes black in which i have to either grab on to something quick or lay down on a couch before i collapse on the floor. the feeling always goes away after a few seconds. this year however seems to be by far the worst and i am having spells often almost everyday. i have no idea why i have this problem because i believe i live a pretty healthy lifestyle by eating the right foods, drinking lots of water, and exercising daily. does anybody know what's wrong with me?

It sounds like you have a condition known as orthostatic hypotension. If it is serious enough, your physician may prescribe medicines to combat the symptoms, however management of those medicines can be quite challenging - some patients find that the dizziness spells are preferrable to some of the side-effects of these medicines.

Note, this condition is pretty common. A lot of people are bound to say this is HYPERTENSION; most likely it is not. Hypertension implies your blood pressure is too high. Fainting, dizziness, and blacking out are often caused by a lack of oxygenated blood reaching your brain - something that doesn't occur in hypertension. Instead, you likely have hypotension. We've all had a bout of it at one time or another in our lives... get up from a seat too quickly and we feel a little "woozy" like we're going to fall down. Some people have it to the point where it happens repeatedly while they're doing normal activities. It could be a more serious condition, but if I was a betting person, I'd say you have this condition. It's mild - see your doctor when you have a chance and let him or her know about the problem.

Kevin seems to know what he is talking about.

I will add mine: Dizzy spells are a warning sign that something is amiss. Your body is telling you something and you ought to listen. If you are doing exercises then it should be happening while you are on a aerobic routine, right?

It could be a pinched nerve. It could be lack of oxygen. It could be any number of things. I have had dizzy spells but nothing as frequent as you say. I finally had it diagnosed it as lack of iron and B complex. I am OK now after a supervised mega doses of both.

What this means to you is: Be careful when driving or operating a machinery. You could seriously get hurt or even worse, die.

See a doc. Get to the bottom of it. Good luck, God bless.
