i'm having problems trying to do a pattern using the moss stitch. is it possible to just go ahead and use the garter stitch instead? the pattern is just a toy so i didn't think it would matter...

Garter stitch will work ok. I find when I knit stitches that need counting to be accurate , I need absolutely no distractions and always try to finish a row before putting your knitting down. Good luck!

It the pattern is based on *measurements* rather than "row count" and texture isn't an issue, you'd be OK. If it's based on row count, it wouldn't work right substituting garter stitch or moss stitch. Garterstitch is noted for having row count equal stitch count gage-wise. Moss-stitch has more rows per inch than stitches per inch.

still having trouble with the elephant? Go ahead and knit it in garter stitch, it shouldn't make too much difference.

im sure that you can substitute garter for moss. the only difference it will make would be the look in the end.

I don't think it will matter. Stitches are just a guideline and you say it is just a toy. No one will know but you anyway.
