Sort of.

I have been very directly in past years. There was a time when someone I knew really needed something, and I knew he did not have the money for it. I discussed it with my family, and we bought it for him, and had my uncle, who the man would never be able to connect to me, deliver it to him with a note simply saying it was from one of "Santa's Elves".

Now we are a little less direct about it. About 5 years ago, my husband and I decided that instead of giving gifts to our siblings and close friends, we would take the money and use it for a good cause, instead. Each year we pick a different project or cause, and we donate the money we would have spent on gifts to the cause. We give each person who would have received a gift a little card explaining our yearly project. So far we've had no complaints, and since we ask those people specifically to not buy US a gift, either, but to donate to charity, we have cut down on the number of gifts which, while lovely, we don't need.

So yeah, I am a secret Santa, of sorts. And I like it!
