Public approval ratings for the new Democratic Congress' performance are hovering around 20 percent, a third lower than Bush's anemic standing in the polls and among the lowest congressional ratings ever recorded.

Good question and some good answers. They are a Lame Duck Congress...

Why don't we HEAR about this in the PRESS? or on the Television NEWs? I know the answer...but does that bother anyone else? Will it hurt the dems in 2008?

When the Senate Majority leader takes bogus info and tries to destroy a radio talking head and then takes up time on the senate floor and the Minority whip goes off on a lark to another country, it makes you wonder. Both these people could theoretically become President.

They were put in power for a reason and did not do what they said would be done, thus the ratings are even lower. What if that guy got info off a blog and had a chance to get by the "button". Spooky.

By the way you always have great questions, no wonder you were a two term pres. Take care.

Did you know that right after 9/11 congress had an 84% approval rating? Amazing. Their current rating is 16%. A high for the year, but still pathetic.

Because they are so intent on stalling Bush's every move that they aren't getting a thing done.

No wonder.... have you ever looked up the lib icon, John Edwards record in Congress? I don't know why he's given any credibility at all....

"Edwards, a Democrat, was a Senator from North Carolina from 1999 to 2004.

Edwards missed 311 of 2019 votes (15%) since Jan 8, 1999 (Extremely Poor relative to peers).

Edwards sponsored 81 bills since Jan 19, 1999, of which 74 (91%) haven't made it out of committee and 0 were successfully enacted."

haha! Libs like this guy!!!!! Must be because he's so good at upholding their agenda of being a useless, lazy parasite upon our society and our government.

b/c the republicans won't agree on withdrawing troops. Americans want the war to end ASAP. I blame the GOPee for this. Remember the same polls give the Dems in Congress a higher approval rating then the GOP in Congress. Plus, far more people are likely to vote Democrat in Congress for 2008. So this is bad news for Republicans.

To simplify it as much as possible:

The Democratic supporters are annoyed at the lack of spine the Democrats have, and they're mad at Republicans for blocking the efforts of the Democrats in Congress.

The Republican supporters are mad at the pro-amnesty Republicans in Congress, and at the Democrats for trying to end the war in Iraq.

And everyone else is tired of the insipid partisan bickering between both parties.

Now if you want to see a record low rating, look at the Congress's approval for Oct. 13-16, 2006 it hit 16%!

Nice propaganda try, but the Joe Goebbels effect seems to have let you down. Congress' approval ratings have always been low, but if you ask people about their own senator or representative they love the guy....that's why the same people keep getting elected. Also, a lot of the disgust is centered around the Republican losers that are still close to 50% of both houses. Bush on the other hand is just one guy and nobody likes him anymore....they may put up with him because there is nobody else, but check it out.....even the right wing talk show idiots have written this bum off. That's gotta' hurt!

Hey Bubba!
The Congress' approval rating was equally low before the election!
Great obfuscation there!

Because the conservaitve democrats are afraid to act. They may as well be republicans in there. They haven't done a thing that the people want them to do (stop the war, higher wages, get rid of the Bush tax cuts, etc.). If they actually followed a liberal agenda instead of acting like republicans, they would have higher approval.

Because both Houses of Congress are controlled by commie pinko Democrats.
Taxpayers don't like those people.
Only welfare people like Democrats in Congress.
