In so many surveys when it asks for your race it says stuff like "Hispanic" then "White (not-hispanic), African-American (not-hispanic). etc." Sometimes it will just say "Hispanic" and "Not-hispanic." Why do they do that?

People are obsessed with finding out when Non-hispanic white people will become the minority.
To above person: I know people in America don't understand what Hispanic means but isnt it lovely that people of three different races come together and are united under the one name.

I have no idea. What I think is that a lot of people do not even know what Hispanic means, including some people who call themselves Hispanic. Hispanic heritage means that you have heritage from Spain or Hispania which was the Roman named province of Iberia. The United States is just confused or does not care.
