The Government wants to introduce GM foods to be grown in this country, probably killing off the organic farming industry. Would you eat GM foods? Because the Government are trying to sneak this in like they do with everything.
The W.H.O has done tests but they haven't been round long enough in my opinion to know the long term effects.

As with Europe issues they know that public opinion is not strong enough for people to be out on the streets over it in numbers so it will happen

Franco - science doesn't know everything and you have to be aware on where these studies are coming from and which organisation is funding them, in order to reach what conclusion.

Couldn't care less what the WHO has to say on the subject. I won't be eating that GM rubbish. I'll grow my own organic fruit and veg in my back garden if I have to.

I currently do not knowingly buy anything containing GM ingredients purely because there can be no evidence at the moment that it is safe. It would take about 30-50 years in my opinion for there to be any proof that it causes no ill effects in the long term, such as cancers. Lets remember the government advice originally about salmonella in eggs and British beef not being connected to CJD. By the time the scientists of the future discover what a disastrous idea it was, it will be too late for anyone affected by the outcome, and there will be millions of people eating the stuff because your average joe will buy it either because they don't know the difference or because it will probably be cheaper. The Government never cares about anything long term, because they will be retired on a fat pension and in good health never having eaten the cr*p they peddled to the population.

G.M. foods are an environmental nightmare waiting to happen. There are a thousand good scientific reasons to ban their widescale use.

There is no economic arguement for GM foods unless you work for a certain US food giant which is already responsible for famine around the world. The USA is the only country that wants G.M. food forced on the world, along with their hormone contaminated meat, and drugged up athletes.

However I can be pusuaded that their may be an argument for medicinal crops being grown on a smaller scale in tightly controlled environments.

Even if something is accepted as safe for consumption that is only a small part of the problem. The W.H.O. is not an expert on agriculture, wildlife or the economic and political effects of G.M. produce. For example Ozzy Bin Laden may be safe to eat, but I wouldn't want him living in my garden.

No, I would not eat it.No credible research is available to prove the safety of GM foods. The few independent studies conducted so far have instead raised alarm - young rats being fed with GM foods showed hazardous effects in their stomachs. Other studies suggest that bacteria of vital importance to the human body can be contaminated by genes infused in GM food. Some genes are feared to have long term serious and irreversible effects on our health system, either by themselves or their mutations. Foods that will have genes from other plants or animals inserted into its genetic structure could stimulate allergies in humans which could/would be harmful to those of us,such as myself, that suffer from food allergies. If one is allergic to fish, and one eats a GM tomato that includes genes from a fish, might I have an allergic reaction if I eat the tomato? There are many worrying issues.Restructuring nature in this direction may be not only unwise, but dangerous...

I don't know what country you live in but gm crops are grown in every state in the US and in a lot of other countries. I promise you that you eat gm foods everyday. The vast majority of corn and soybeans in the US are gm and corn and soybeans are in A LOT of the foods you eat. There's nothing wrong with eating gm crops! There are no accredited studies showing anything wrong with gm's. The whole idea that there is something wrong with gm's is a conspiracy theory. And there is plenty of room in the marketplace for both organic and gm crops. Do some research on the topic but make sure and read into both sides of the arguement. Also definitely check out the impending grain shortage the world will be experiencing soon and you'll quickly realize the need for gm crops that are proven to yield significantly better while also reducing the use of pesticides.

I dont think they have been proved safe and so No I wouldn't eat them. I am not inclined to believe much of what the gov would like us to believe is true. They have been messing with our food for years now. Addittives etc have been withdrawn years after they have been introduced because they have been found to be carcogenic.

They say that growing GM foods will reduce the food needs of the third world. Let them grow them there. Our agriculture industry is being ruined by the EU as it is, without burdening the farmers any further.

Gm soya has been added to your bread for the last 5 years and nobody has shouted about it.
Gm potatoes were tested in Germany, on rats who fail to develop mentally. They are now totaly banned in Germany, as it is feared that they could have the same effect on children.
African states are refusing gm food aid as they refuse to be the test centre for adverse effects.

To me GM is out ..!!

Every time there is an advance in science, no matter how beneficial, people will go around screaming that the world is coming to an end and make 60s style horror movies.

God created everything in His way for a reason that He fully understands....It is scary to think that we think we have a better plan. Biologically modifying something is not necessary...there is a better way to produce better food by a more natural means I am sure. Maybe that is another question for another day, right?
