I know that person was probably mentally deranged and needs help, but he came awfully close to being shot.

well...yes, he is mentally ill and off his meds.. so i heard..however there are other factors that caused him to do what he did...there are many others who are mentally ill and off their meds who don't do such things... so that is just one piece of the puzzle...and yes, he almost got shot...natural consequence i would say.
