Poor financial decisions...giving in to addictions, whatever they might be

What causes a person to become poor and homeless, is the fact of having problems getting a job. Most homeless/poor people are unemployed, because they are having major problems getting a job. A homeless/poor person isn't that way because they want to be, it's just that they are having problems getting a job. Who wouldn't want to have a job, and have a source of income? Homeless/poor people do want jobs, but it's the picky employers out there that's causing the homeless rate in out country.

A homeless/poor person may apply for a job that he/she qualifies for, and the employer will refuse to interview or hire the homeless person just because of a dislike. Just because the employer doesn't like a job applicant, doesn't mean that job applicant woun't be successful to keep the job. People aren't always given a chance at job, that they deserve to have. Employers don't give job applicants chances at holding a job, then need to support themselves.

An employer is looking at an application comming from a homeless person. Next the employer finds out that the applicant really wants the job. Well the applicant wants the job because he/she is homeless and needs a source of income. That employer doesn't know the applicant. That applicant could be a nice and responsible person, and then he/she gets turned down for the job for no reason. A lot of employers do this, espechially employers in retail stores. People aren't given chances at having a job they deserve to have, and that's why then homelss rate is so high.

If employers would stop turning down qualified job applicants, the homelss rate would be a lot lower. Employers don't realize that they may learn something good, from a job applcant that really wants the job.

My whole point of saying this is, getting a job isn't always easy, and employers make it even harder.

The Actions that lead people to becoming poor and homeless is dropping out of high school and getting the worst grades ever in the seventh grade because if you fail the seventh grade you will end up going to a bad highs chool and that will affect collage.

People can become homeless for any number of reasons, including addiction, lack of financial planning (losing everything in the quest to 'become somebody'), escaping an abusive situation in the home, loss of a family member on whom they are financially dependent, etc.

Now as far as how people 'become' poor, that list is even longer. Some people are born into poverty and have more limited opportunities to rise out of poverty. For these people, it may be a lot more difficult to visualize how to achieve a different life.

Living day by day and not planning for your future. Not realizing the importance of money. Depression. Job loss. Not caring anymore.
If you don't take life seriously, and just try to wing it and have fun all the time.... you could end up with utilities turned off, evictions, addicted to drugs and on the streets. Quite a sad state and hard to recover from.

There are many actions that can lead to being homeless, as told in the previous answers, but also not having a good, strong family foundation. Someone, anyone that he/she can go to for assistance.

Illness and no health insurance. Health providers want only cash now.
You loose your job because of different reasons. Company lays off employees. Company closes down...not what?
One has to sell all assets, car, house....you name it.
No money to pay utilities....service providers cut off water, lights, natural gas, stop oil delivery.
You freeze, you starve, you loose your home, or you are kicked out of your apartment because you can no longer afford to pay rent....get the rosy picture by now?
Out onto the street you must go....no place to go to because you have no money...

This is the way I imagine it has gone for many people, and it is sad that this can happen here in the USA.

Losing a job then not being able to make rent, mortgage, or car payments. It's a downward spiral when it happens- and it not always because the person is lazy or has bad habits.
