I just got a new HP laptop. I have already had to get the keyboard replaced because I key was off when I purchased it last Saturday. Best buy did it when I brought it back since they had no more to switch it out for. Since then, I have had two other problems. First, the battery only lasts 1 hour maybe 1 1/2 hour on the recommended power save options. Second, the computer froze yesterday. I could not get it to unfreeze. It was frozen for 15 minutes. The clock stopped so I know. The keyboard would not respond (if I pressed caps lock the light would not light and the wireless switch stayed lit too even if I turned it off). Also, the power switch would not respond. I had to eject the battery to get it to come back on. Is this normal? Should I return this computer to best buy for a refund?

My laptops batter last no longer than 15 minutes. I don't know why. It sucks really! On a good day I might get 25 minutes out of it!
It's been like this since I had it!
Now that makes me unhappy!

Many new batteries have to be calibrated for the computer.

Check your model and see if there is a way.

You should be able to enter the boot menu setup and check there.

If the battery is not an HP replacment, it may not be fully compatible with your computer.

You have to look at the Milliamps per hour rating to determine how much power your battery will have.

The bigger the number the longer the power should last.

It sounds a lot like a refurbished laptop to me.
If you play games, it's normal your battery doesn't last more than that but if you just surf the internet or work on it, then the battery is old and dying.
Either return this computer to best buy and get a new one, non refurbished or buy a new battery. You can usually get good deals at Batteries Plus ( http://www.batteriesplus.com )

If you have just purchased it yes. I am a repair service center manager for notebooks. A brand new notebook should not have the keys off the notebook or freezing or battery lasting for 1.5 to 2 hours. Take it back to them and send me an email and let me know what the resolution is. As for a brand new unopened notebook in the box. I need to know because of the service center I work in.
