Depends on how you look at it. For example, Canada has such a good re-forestation program that they have lumber nearly a re-newable resource. The USA is not far behind. Forests in mainland Europe are growing and expanding at a very fast rate, and are eating up CO2 well beyond the expectations of scientists. Many species in the world that were brought to the near point of extinction 20 years ago from over hunting, have been re-introduced into the wild and are thriving to the point of nearly being off the endangered species list. Game reserves in certain areas of Africa are doing very well to protect the wildlife. Alot of areas that were fished to near non-existant levels, have been beginning to thrive again from fishing bans. But then you look to areas like south america, and they are clear cutting and destroying the forests at about an acre every 30 mins, to make way for farm land and expansion, China pollutes and destroys the land and water supply horribly with no thought for the people that depend on it. It all depends on the country, look at even the UK, talking about using green belt land to build more houses, there are hardly any tree left in the UK, but they are willing to cut down more. How about all the animals that have been hunted to extinction, and never re-introduced into the British wild because they would get in the way of expansion.
Polar ice caps melting is a natural thing. Global warming is NOT caused by humans, it's caused by nature. Nature is powerful. These politicians on about Battling global warming are fools, so are the scientists that think we are powerful enough to stop global warming, we should be spending money on adapting to global change, not battling it, we may as well battle a hurricane or volcano.
So long as populations increase, and medical and technological advance at the current rate, we, will always battling to find the right balance between progress and nature. The world has already managed to stop and or contain a few pandemics, but it is just a matter of time, before one takes hold and serverly decreases the world population (natures way of balancing the population explosion) it has happened many times in the past and it will happen again.

yes, but polar ice caps are not our fault. It is cyclitic, the earth warms up, then cools down, then heats up, then cools down. Lets be fair to the human race, we are only just coming out of an ice age and volcanoes, cows and pine trees give out alot more greenhouse gasses than we do. The only reason we are told we contrabute alot is so that the government can tax the people more to try and 'reduce' the oil usage. The government know that we will moan and wige and complian but do sod all bout it cos thats the way everyone is, they have opinions but won't do anything bout em.

Why not?
When we do not even know how to answer a piece of question with those "Three little words" on "Who are you" left behind by our creator for each and every living human kind to come up with an answer vital for the survival and advancement of living human kind .
Luke 21. 30
While we were doing things at own whims and fancy with "Money, money, money" and "All for the money" with lost sense of direction and purpose of life.
Luke 21.31
Getting kick on the butts as casualty of the dead Mummy of failures and horrors of the past from the graveyards of different ghostly ancestor's culture and custom in not worshiping God in climbing up the coconut trees and still look green.
Luke 6.39-40,41-45,46-49

Unfortunately yes. We use up more resources than the planet can recover.
If we survive until after the petrol is over, and presumably find a substitute for the energy it provides us with - I wonder how are we going to live without any plastic at all ....

Yes, we are in fact. But most of it is from global warming. Global warming has melted many ice caps and has burned down forests and such. It's all from us humans using gas powered pollutants, energy use, etc.
