the facts out to the American people--the facts about the important stories, the ones that are not necessarily entertaining?

I've read too many self-styled journalists on the Web who seem to think they don't need to check facts anymore, and who regularly make truly boneheaded, avoidable errors.

The news agencies are owned and run by big businesses, which have an agenda. They have the right to tell a story, with the Company's own particular slant on it. It may not be particularly accurate, but you know that the opposition company will have something different. The best advice in viewing news is "there are 3 sides to every story...yours, mine and the truth".
