-7 and -sqrt(49)...the square root of a negative number is an imaginary number.

The first one is out because the square root of minus 49 has no real root therefore it is imaginary. The square root of plus 49 is plus or minus 7. If we select the positive 7 then the minus sign out side the radical makes it a negative 7 which is equivalent to the middle expression. How ever if we select the negative 7 then the negative sign out side the radical makes it a positive 7 which is not equivalent to the middle expression. I am a little rusty but I am not sure any of the expressions are equivalent. I don`t have any reference books to check. It is an interesting question and I am going to be watching the answers you receive. The answers you received appear to be correct but I don`t know how to explain the possibility of a positive 7 for the third expression which would mean none of the expressions are equivalent..

The last two. The first one is equal to 7i which is very different from -7
