Generally, as a rule, most people take down the Christmas Tree on or right after New Year's Day. No, there is no bad luck associated if you should take the tree down sooner or later. Especially, it is a live tree and depending on when you placed it in your home, the needles begin to fall off. Not a lot of fun trying to vacuum or clean up the needles once they begin to fall off. Even, if it's an artificial tree, the same rule applies as when to take it down. There is no bad luck associated, that's the bottom line. I hope that this helps. Merry Christmas to you and your family !!

For practical reasons we do not decorate until the weekend before Christmas and they stay from then until 12th night which off hand I can not remember if it is the 5th or 6th of January.

Good or bad luck does not come into it

Its not bad luck. But traditionally you wouldn't take it down until either the 12th day (5 Jan) or 12th night (6 Jan) of christmas.
Have a look at the link below for why.

It's pure superstition! Christmas trees go up in stores in September, way before advent & looking at their profits it certainly doesn't bring them any bad look!

Take it down when you have the time, If you have a busy schedule do it when you can. I once left one up until February. I was a busy person that year!
