Curiously, although scientists generally accepted the atomic theory of matter for a long time, it was not until the early 20th century that there was enough evidence for it to be accepted as a 'fully paid-up' scientific theory.

One piece of evidence was Einstein's paper in 1905 on Brownian motion. See source, just above 'Discovery of subatomic particles'.

But I'm not sure why you couldn't have done an internet search on 'atomic theory' for yourself.
