go to medicaid.. I lost my insurance from my job at the end of Oct, and I am due on dec 17th.. I have an appointment with a case worker on Wednesday, and they said they can give me a card the same day..
otherwise, if you don't qualify for Medicaid, there is always Maternity Card.. but it's VERY VERY expensive.
if you go into the hospital with no insurance, they will help you apply for Medicaid, or they can put you on a sliding scale based on your income.. etc.
you do have options out there, you just have to act FAST! ;)
I would call your state Medicaid office on monday.

Do you qualify for free insurance? If you dont make very much then as a pregnant woman your medical expenses can be covered via medicaid, or a s imial program, but you would need to apply now. If you make too much, and have no insurance, then you will have to pay out of pocket for the whole thing. Hospital births are $30,000 or more, so you could find a midwife and do it at home for around $5000 usually, if you have had a healthy pregnancy and are not high risk.

Are you low-income? Have you been receiving proper prenatal care? Apply for medicaid, they cover pregnancy and childbirth--as well as immunizations, etc after birth--for low-income families.
And in response to a previous poster, hospital births vary GREATLY from one hospital to the next. Where I live (Northern US), childbirth generally runs from $2,000-$10,000 depending on complications and time spent in the hospital, etc.

call your county health department and see what kind of temporary assistance you can get.. Sometimes you will be responsible for a portion of the payment, but it is better than having nothing. Sometimes, if you qualify, it may cover the cost of the birth.
