Absolutely...
You should ALWAYS use the internet with these rules in mind.....
Rule #1-----
NOTHING NOTHING NOTHING you print or publish on the internet is anonymous... NOTHING...
Rule #2... NEVER NEVER NEVER forget rule #1....
With an IP... I can trace you down to the switching station in your general neighborhood... then can get a Geo-synchrynous Map picture of your neighborhood...and with some luck.. I can get further than that.

I think this rather depends on how good you are at the technicalities of the internet. Police do trace people have run scams but if that person it really clever they can do things from rented premises and just disappear

Yes. If you post any pictures of yourself, or even use your own name. Some of the time, cops are the ones talking to you through chat rooms to make sure you aren't trying to do anything bad. Just make up names, NEVER give away your address, and you should probably not even give your name. Be careful!

there is something called IP adress which is proper and unique to every computer browsing the internet. the problem is it takes time to track someone becos often the data is re routed several times towards other servers. there are softwares what exist that can help u hide the IP adress but it is only a matter of time before they cancrack it down. and no, none of us is 100% safe. it is but a matter of time.

There's an IP address that you can trace, and that will tell what city you live in. That's about it.

I wouldn't worry to much about just random people you chat with online. It is both the law, and the lawbreakers who are good at tracking you down.
