Maybe because some people are hateful. Maybe because some people call people nasty names, like "stupid." Maybe because some people have expectations of others, in that they expect everyone to be just like them.
There are so many possibilities. I am content.

Yes, I agree, life is really simple. It's we who make it complicated.
One reason we aren't content is because we are also in a constant state of striving and reaching higher and better stages (in our perception). I think this quality is part of the human condition - to keep wanting something more. If everything was on a plateau, it might be a dull existence. But if one has goals and dreams to reach, it keeps people meaningfully occupied and keeps us growing. But that stage of always wanting to get somewhere, is what creates the discontent too.
It helps to be in the Now, and experience contentment, along with knowing, that we are still working towards what we might desire, but we still have a lot to feel lucky and satisfied about.
Just wanted to add an analogy - It's like we are so busy looking so far away, that we might miss the happiness in the now. It's like looking out the window and being lost in our thoughts, not realizing that we can pet the adorable cat that's by our feet and get a smile on our face. We are missing the joy's of the journey and immediate beautiful moments, when we are preoccupied with what we dont have and where we want to go.

We complicate it by making all form of arbitrary regulations approximately what existence "could desire to" be, which includes: i could desire to be a winner at any value I could seem suited or my significant different won't love me. There could desire to be a perplexing and quickly device for each little thing, or each and every thing will cave in. Staying alert yet not alarmed, being tuned in to human beings over methods, will ultimately make issues run greater easily and sense much less complicated. existence is common. Be good to others and do the ideal which you would be able to. so, KISS it is going to likely be good.

I don't know if life is so simple. I really don't know.
But I believe that many times, we tend to set landmarks, and we program ourselves for disappointment. We often say to ourselves, or even to others, "Once I get a new car, I will be happy." Or "once I get a new job, I will be happy." But whenever we meet our objectives, we are invariably disappointed. We set up our hopes extremely high, and when we achieve what it was that we wanted, we are still somewhat empty inside. I think it is because we expect too much from material things, or from other people, or from ourselves sometimes.

You have just reached a point in your life where you have realised that you have two decisions to make about your life.
And have also realised that many more people haven't reached that point yet.
What you have realised is that it is up to the idividual to decide whether to be happy or unhappy. Not as a whole. But on every little thing going on in their lives, (which will reflect on their whole life).
It makes sense, whatever happens, decide to be either happy or unhappy about it and you will be that way. String all your decisions together over your life and you will be either happy or unhappy.
It's 'your' decision.

Ancient Europeans wrote about Ages of Man.

There are also many other references to various
types of world ages or Ages of Man in Hopi
(worlds), Mayan (suns) and other cultures of
antiquity. Giorgio de Santillana, the former
professsor of the history of science, mentions
approximately thirty ancient cultures that
believed in the concept of a series of ages and
the rise and fall of history, with alternating
Dark and Golden Ages.
More details of these Ages are available in the
Yuga concept of the Hindus. The present age
is known as Kali Yuga (age of darkness).

The reason why we make life so difficult is for survival. If our ancestors were content with mediocrity then there would be no advancement in our lives. We need ambition and non-complacency to drive ourselves, and our offspring forward.
