You guys already know everything about the Brit sent to prison for giving a teddy bear the name of prophet Mohammad. The papers say it is outrageous an old woman will be sent to prison for such an innocent mistake. I am pretty sure she did not mean to insult Islam or something, but is it not a little bit rude to go abroad pretending British standards will prevail whatever the country you might be in? I feel really sorry for this woman, but I think she should have gathered some information on Sudan and what Islam is like before venturing herself into it. The Sudanese have been somewhat lenient on her ever since the usual punishment for this sort of things is either 40 slashes or a year in prison. What do you guys make of it?

Even though I am not a very religious person myself, I do respect other people’s points of views and ideas (this is very important for me). All I ask in return is not to be bothered. The fact the world is the way it is, or that there are intolerant people living in this world, does not bother me at all. I live in the UK now, but I have lived in Morocco for some time, where I was a teacher with a private school for 6 years (teaching Literature and Philosophy, which is even worse), and I know how important it is to go by local customs and abide by the law when you go abroad. I am going to say it again. I am really sorry for this teacher (I am sure she did not mean to insult Islam), but it is wrong to judge other people by one’s own standards and pretend everybody will understand. The world is simply enormous, huge, and different peoples and cultures live at large in it. It is only for us to realize it.

Note: not only did she allow the students to name the teddy bear Mohammad, but also sent letters to their parents to tell them about this. Would you imagine what it would be like to be sent a letter by a Muslim teacher saying there is a teddy bear at the school you son is at by the name "Jesus"? Just let’s see this problem the other way around. As I say, the Sudanese have been somewhat lenient with her.

I have not seen severe penalties being meeted out by the judges yet.

The only thing I am saying here is "it is wrong to believe British standards will prevail whatever the country, whatever the people". We all have an opinion about what it is to be done when something like this takes place somewhere in the world, but we are judging the problem only taking into account our own perspectives or point of views. We should not judge the Sudanese by what we think is right or wrong. In this country no person will be sent to prison for naming a bear after Jesus, but the rest of the world have a different opinion about this matter. The only way we have to realize whether the Sudanese have overreacted, or whether their actions are right or wrong, is to try to understand the way they do things or regard life. This is what we are doing wrong. British standards only apply in Britain, but the rest of the world is a different story.

I understand your point completely. Your initial reaction is to be shocked when hearing upon the punishment but then again, if it were one of their own people, we wouldn't hear about it or even be shocked.
It's hard to say what to do. Obviously she didn't intentionally wish to insult Islam but when in another country, especially one that is very renowned for being traditionalist, very religious, you would think you would try to find out more about the taboos.
It's still shocking though. I don't like thinking about it.

This is one of those times that I think that religion/culture is demonstrably ridiculous. I think those either accepting her punishment as just, or not severe enough show exactly how unevolved many in the Islamic world are. I think fundamentalist religious people all over the world should be insulted for their beliefs. They are so sure that they are right, and in the name of their righteousness, they feel the right to do anything in the name of their religion. They demonstrate no intelligence. If the Islamic religion is so weak, and the if the prophet Mohammad is untouchable as to be able to have a teddy bear named Mohammad, then the religion is of no value.

I have said this before -
This whole thing has been blown up out of all proportion and if someone had used some common sense it would never have come to the ridiculous situation we have now.
The person who reported her Sarah (the school assistant) should have gone to the head or the teacher and pointed out how the naming of the bear could look.
She didn't - apparently because of a grudge.
The whole thing would have been averted and no one would have been aware of it.
However once again common sense has been slaughtered on the altar of religious doctrine and the British public have been angered by what they see as an unjust legal process.
However she got 15 days and deportation so she should serve her time and get out of there.
And if anyone else has ideas of going there hopefully they will take the time to learn from this poor woman's ordeal.

This is a very complex issue and both side want a face saving answer to it. We want the women free but also the Sudanese government which is weak want to show strength against the West. And would hope over the weekend and by late Monday she will be deported so both side can salvage some out of it

She didn't actually name the teddy bear...her school children did. It was a class projects for six year olds. If the Sudan children would see to name their bear Mohammad, then maybe they should be punished too. It is their country and culture.
Fifteen days is nothing..they wanted to kill her.

You should get your facts right ...she did not give the bear its name, the kids did, her supposed crime was to allow them to do it.. The way she has been treated is not going to help the relations between Christians and Islamics. I for one, feel that we as a country should just withdraw all our financial help and let them look after themselves. If I were a teacher there, I would already be making my way home.

IF that really is the Islamic law of the Sudanese land, then someone ought to point out how short-sighted, blinkered, pedantic and nit-picking it all is. Don't people in Sudan ever grow up? Thank God I live in a civilised country!

there is no point sending her to prison.
it is basically saying that no one is allowed to use the name mohammad for any reason. Anybody could have made the mistake. You shouldn't have to research about where things originate before you name a teddy bear!

I think it is absolutely ridiculous. It was a honest mistake or a teacher wouldn't put herself in that position. I am sure the class decided on the name for a teddy bear!

In first trimester, you have got intercourse yet basically after having consulted your gynaecologist. i think of he watches pron to fulfill his lust which he, of path, on the 2nd can not satiate with you. it is okay as long as he does not make it a habit and might pull out of it to renew intercourse with you. The turn fringe of staring at pron is that it de-sensitises the guy from a classic sexual bump into. besides, his concept of a suitable woman physique, his expectancies in mattress and his tastes additionally skew/exchange. I take it that submit-being pregnant, you will no longer keep the form and the determine which you at the instant have. it is conceivable that he would loose pastime in you as he would get habituated to the 'suitable 10' woman anatomy interior the pron. You greater helpful pay attention! slightly it to satiate his daily urge for foodstuff is okay, yet whilst he crosses the line, step up and serve him some handjobs and, in case you fancy, blowjobs.
