What is your opinion on the law of attraction that states everything is made up of energy and by thinking and feeling in certain way we can be, do and have what we want.

I think it's very true. When we think positively, we attract positive people and positive things happen to us. And when we're thinking negatively, we attract negativity. (But sometimes depression and negative feelings are part of life and we can't help feeling those feelings. But we can try very hard to change our thoughts to more positive ones.

I do think that with optimistic, positive thinking it does affect our outcome--positive, if we're optimistic, and negative if we're pessimistic. A state of optimism is also a much healthier state, physically. It can affect our health, present and future. Read Emotional Intelligence by Daniel Goleman. It's an excellent book and this sort of thing is discussed, among other topics. And he backs everything he has to say up with solid research.

When we're positive, we have more energy and it's much easier to meet positive people that hopefully will be socially supportive to us. Social supports are really important in life.

While I don't negate the power of positive thinking, motivation and old-fashioned "where there's a will, there's a way", there's no way to "prove" the "law of attraction" or know if it can be carried to it's ultimate conclusion if you follow it through. If that were true, a person with the IQ of 40 could be a president or a brain surgeon or a computer programmer simply by thinking and feeling in a certain way. Or I could have a few billion dollars just by thinking and feeling in a certain way. I wish! And sure, if it doesn't work it's easy enough to say, "You just didn't think/feel the RIGHT certain way." So what do I think about the law of attraction? It's an adult version of the fairy tales we used to read our kids....a touch of magic and "happily ever after."

I think it plays into the American mentality (it goes along quite well with the principle of "manifest destiny" as well as the view that America is the "land of opportunity" where you can "do anything" if "you put your mind to it".) As a result it sells a lot of books and the folks pedaling this BS are making a lot of money.

Now I say it's BS because the theoretical framework that's behind it is bogus. There is value in thinking positive and it does and can have beneficial affects. But at the same time, sometimes bad things happen and it's not because you weren't sending out "positive signals" (or whatever nonsense it is).

Having a positive attitude does turn into a sort of self-fulfilling prophecy. By having a positive attitude you'll be more likely to pursue opportunities and more opportunities will be made available to you (I think as a general rule of thumb, people would rather be around and work with people with positive attitudes than negative attitudes.)

But to suggest that, for example, those in 3rd world countries are poor and suffering because they aren't sending out the right "vibes" to the universe (which is what the "theory" ultimately implies) is just silly when the real causes have more to do with social organization, resource availability/distribution, etc.

I think that you cant attract good if your running around with a bad attitude, people dont open up to bad attitudes so that is what I believe but the laws of attraction meaning that you WILL be/get what you want by having a good positive outlook is just plain bullshit. Takes hard work and a positive outlook but nothing is ever guaranteed. Keep your chin up. -Rachel

Everything IS energy.

That said though, the law of attraction is overstated. It's like karma. If you make a lot of enemies will you eventually get your @ss kicked. Not necessarily, but you certainly have raised the odds.

Does getting clear on what you want guarantee you'll get it?
No. But it sure raises the odds.

I think it is unfair. Why does it let a freshman in high school fall for the most adorable, taken junior boy? It is just not right. And why does it not let the freshman get a look at its competition because it goes to another school? ERRRRRGGGGG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We have no intrinsic supernatural power. We only can tap into the power of Yahweh God or the "other" power whether we know what we are tapping into or not.
