yes i think they can maybee not this year but in the next couple years yes absolutely...no doubt about it ...they have talent at almost every position and a great new manager...they still need a powerbat and to get rid of jent a 2nd base..he is more trouble than he is worth but looney at first kemp and ethier in the o.f. laroche at 3rd and of course the big man behind the plate...good core team there ..pick up a couple bats...get rid of kent and yes nomar too and they will rock

As much as I believe the change in coaching staff will have a significant impact, unless the Dodgers gain a consistent big bat, and unless someone steps up as an on-the-field leader, the Dodgers are destined for mediocrity. The Dodgers have suffered without the long ball for some time, and on-the-field and in-the-dugout leadership has been lacking for the past couple of seasons. The Dodgers tried last year, but when pitching was on, there was no offense, and during the fleeting periods of offense, there was no pitching (or defense). I think a good team leader can bring a change about in that arena. As much as I hate him and the NYY (no offense to NYY fans), I have to say that Derek Jeter is the stereotype for team leadership. He brings the team up when they are down, and keeps them up when they are up. He's not afraid to go to the mound to help bolster a pitcher's confidence, and he's the guy that gets the team to shake off mistakes. I hate him, but he's the kind of guy (not THE guy) the Dodgers need right now.

The Dodgers won't win anything but attendance records as long as McCourt is the owner of that team. They have so much money and won't make any effort to improve the team. Without adding an impact bat and another starting pitcher, they will be very similar to last year, a big disappointment. The only reason they are going with this "youth movement" is because all the kids make about 300,000 a year. The management of this team makes me sick, no effort what so ever! Yeah adding Torre was nice, but why bring him here if they are not going to make some big moves to WIN NOW!

To add to what Frizzer said, they need to put weight incentives in Cabrera's contract if they try to land him, and I don't mean extra pancakes and sausage at breakfast. But the Marlins have bumped their heads with what they want for this guy. On a positive note, Torre being manager and having Bowa and Mattingly with him will help greatly. And yes I think they can win strongly enough to beat Arizona and SD out in that division. I still say Rockies were a fluke, they just won when everyone else couldn't hit their way out of a paper bag in that division.

They're going to need some bats, big time. You guys have money, so if you can't land Miggy Cabrera, I would try to get Pedro Feliz from the Giants. In the last four seasons, he has averaged .255 BA, 21 HR, 84 RBI, 2 SB per season. Also in his career he has played every position except 2B and Pitcher, so he's versatile. Good luck.

Miguel Cabrera would sure help at third base, if he doesn't snack himself to first base where Loney plays. The Dodgers are going to come up short offensively if they don't add some pop in their lineup
