I was 18....I remember it like it happened yesterday. I had hair down to my waist. Golden blonde, thin, silky and poker straight. I worked at Ben's Gourmet Steak House in Rock Island . Going to college in Davenport Iowa. Rule was to keep your hair off your collar. Seriously....maybe I should have been a hooker but my hair was like silk.....it just wouldn't stay up. It always fell out of the holder into a thin blond pony tail down my back. I made tremendous money at this job for the times. Putting a husband through Medical school waiting tables....
Ok....well the boss grabbed my hair and told me to get my hair cut or get fired. So....I went to get it cut. Remember this.....waist length hair.........to what they called a "boy cut" back in those days. Hair was 2 inches long....no matter which way you pulled it out and measured it. Unfortunatly they didn't have a wig for the cancer victims back then..........Needless to say it was a shock. The hair dresser saw that, and figured maybe some "curl" might take the sting out. So I got the perm. Except the perm burned out what hair I had left. Pure FUZZ....not an ounce of curl.....I was crying my eyes out.....went to pick my husband up from college slumped down in the car seat......fuzz glowing. He took one look at me and freaked....I mean fire blazing mad......took me back to the beauty salon filled with women....drug me in by my arm and said " What the F,,, did you do to my wife?!!!!!" I mean he was livid.....wasn't even his hair....LOL so you can imagine how I felt. Took me years to grow that fiasco out. I will never forget that and it was a LONG time ago.

Other than one I gave to myself not long ago LOL, the worst
one I ever paid for, was at a salon owned by a girl I'd gone to
school with shortly after she'd been open. One of her girls
took me instead, and I got the worst chopped up job I could
ever have had. And it was so short on top, I felt like I couldn't
even show myself outside. I went over and told the owner,
and she asked me what was wrong with my cut. And I said,
"Just Look" and she asked me if I wanted her to shape it up.
So I felt she couldn't make it look any worse. But she really
couldn't do a thing with it. And I was still charged. And I still
went out the door. But I was so mad and I knew how long I'd
have to wait before it grew out. I was madder still that I'd had
to pay for that mess. I thought sure my husband would have
a cow, seeing me. It was about 1969 and I was about 25.

Oh my gosh! This is a great question! When I was 14 I got the worst haircut of my life too! It was 1965 and Twiggy was big, the Carnaby Street look, the British invasion etc.......Vidal Sassoon was a hot young British hair designer, with a new look,"the geometric cut". It was extremely unique for the time, poker straight hair, cut long on one side and short on the other, cut short up the back. I wanted that cut and to look hip like the Brits!
So I went to a local stylist that was highly recommended. Now, someone should have told this young Italian American teen with dark curly hair that my hair wasn't suited for that look.........but no! She gave me a razor cut that I remember was painful and then.........my hair was horrific! I cried everyday for....weeks and was miserable for months and months until it grew out!
That stylist ruined me with stylists and I didn't get my hair cut again for 10 years! It was ok because the long straight look came into style and I found ways to deal with my curly hair.......beer can rollers! I didn't even get my hair done professionally when I got married.......it was still long and straight.

I think this is really well written, especially for someone of your age. Although this type of book doesn't appeal to me, I can still admire your talent. I think you could add a bit more history about you and Jett, you said you spent a lot of time with him cause of your mothers being friends, so perhaps include a few short stories about you two. Maybe you got up to mischief and set things on fire or killed small animals or something like that, (you're better at being imaginative than me) Do you have an idea of what's to happen next? did Jett leave anything behind for you? that he knew only you would find? Good luck with the story!!!!!!!

I moved to a new area in 1982 and went to an upscale beauty shop near home. I told the woman want I wanted and she went to work. I came out with hair about one inch long and almost purple!!! Mine is thin and naturally curly, so when I washed it the first time I couldn't tame it. It took about six weeks before I could go to another shop and get another color and style. I hated going to work looking like that. I worked in a super market right in the public eye.

I went in about 10 years ago for a split end trim and ended up with hair less than a inch and a half long on my whole head. That is why I do not go to salons anymore. Dreadful experience.

When I was 10 I donated my hair to locks of love. The woman cut it off at a cute length just above my shoulders. She then stated, "I'm just going to even out these ends some."
"Okay," I said foolishly. She chopped off all my hair so that it was just above my ear! And this was in the somewhat awkward phase in mid-puberty, and to make matters worse the first day of middle school started soon after that. It was horrible.

I was in my early thirties. I was stationed at Ft. Riley, Kansas, and we lived waaaay out in the country. No barbers were open, and I needed a haircut before going to formation on Monday morning. So my wife 'cut' it. I didn't know the back was as jacked up as it was, but after formation one of the guys behind me came up and asked, "Your wife cut your hair, didn't she?"

I went to this fancy place in Miami, "Otto of Norway". my hair was long and just wanted a trim. When he got through with my hair, one side was shoulder length and one side was boob length, when I complained, he said my head was crooked!
I had to have the other side whacked off to my other shoulder just to get it somewhat even..... it was absolutely dreadful.....
When I was 6 my mom decided I should have bangs, unfortunately she got a little carried away and they didn't lay down, just stuck straight out like a visor, pitiful, pitiful, then she took a picture of it.

I can remember being in the first & second grade & having my mom cut my hair. She must have been mad at me when doing so, because she always cut my hair really short, especially my bangs. Yikes!!!!
