If you dont know what kind they are you cant possibly take care of them properly. "maybe aquatic"??? If your keeping tortoise's in water they could drowned. You need to go to like reptilechannel.com and compare it to the photos they have available, to see what you have first, then read up on it, they have caresheets available for a lot of animals

Knowing the species would help. They are PROBABLY Red-ear Sliders, so check out pictures on-line and see if they are. You can also try the World of Turtles gallery at http://www.austinsturtlepage.com to find the species.

Water turtles want three things to be happy and healthy:

1. Good water- LOTS of water (about 10 gallons of water per inch of shell length- 3" is not nearly enough), warmed to 75-80F, and kept very clean with a good filter (skip the cheapos- they will not do the job.)

2. Good sun- a safe, easy access basing site that is warmed to 90F, and lit in a way that illuminates the tank- while leaving shaded placed. Using a UVB bulb is helpful if possible.

3. Good food- a mix of about 1/2 good quality pellets (ReptoMin, Mazuri, T-Rex, etc.) and 1/2 live or frozen/thawed 'fish food' like small fish, worms (babies especially like bloodworms), shrimp, krill, insects, etc. Keep'em small for babies.

Do a little research, spend a couple bucks for the right stuff, and you will enjoy healthy turtles for a long time!

why get a pet when you dont know about it, that guy that gave you the pellets is putting you on the wrong path for dietary needs for your turtle. Do you even have a ramp for them to get out on? Do you have a basking light? Do you have a UVB light? How often are you changing the water? Do you even have a filter?

What do you mean "maybe aquatic?!?!" You need to find out now! Tortoises CANNOT swim. Compare pictures online now. Stop reading this and go. Don't waste another second. If you are still reading this you are not doing what I said! Good Luck. Maybe post some pictures of here.

I would try small live crickets. If that does not work then small earth worms.
