alright, well on monday i have a unit in my P.E. class in swimming. it's 4 weeks long. the problem is, i can swim a little, but i dont think i can swim 50yards and tread water. i have a horrible fear or swimming and depths of 6ft+. its required by my school to take swimming or i have to take it sophomore year. my best friend oscar says that if i'm having trouble in the water he'll help me out, but thats not enough to reassure me that i wont drown or pass out.

i'm so terrified, how do i get over my fear because i HAVE to take the swim stuff but i really dont want to. HELP!

the reason i'm so afraid of the water is because when i was 6 or so, one of my cousin's friends were trying to "help" me swim, so he threw me into 5ft deep water and i almost drowned, but my cousin saved me, so i dont go to well with water :(

Speak to your instructor. Describe your fear. Ask that you be closely monitored, when you are doing your swimming test. If you do get into trouble, there will be someone to come to your aid.

If you don't get any co-operation from your instructor, have your parents contact the school and go over his/her head.

First try talking to your teacher about it. Don't make up crazy excuses about why you can't swim. Tell them the truth. If your teacher still makes you do it, try taking swimming lessons after school. The instructors will be very nice and help you conquer your fear and get used to the water.
Good Luck!

TAKE SWIM LESSONS
don't worry i felt the exact same way about 16 ft. pool and i had to swim in one i couldn't even go down to the bottom all the way!
so you just need to get used to the water and feel it around you !
