The best parts are when you're not playing yourself!! Especially melodrama where people expect you to overact, because then you can take it as far as you want and no one will accuse you of overacting. In your case, it also allows you to step out of yourself and really be something you aren't. Think about the $45 an hour instead of the audiences; that might help! Maybe rehearse your part in front of some friends. And if you got the part, don't worry about disappointing anyone, because they wouldn't have given it to you if they didn't believe you could do it.

I used to be on the debate team when I was in school. Our teacher told us if we had stage fright to focus on only one person in the audience instead of several. And, if it was a person you knew, it would be even better. It really seemed like it helped me. Good Luck!

what are you afraid of? they are just people. they burp, fart just like you . they are not demi-gods where they don't have faults. I don't care how panache the person is they are HUMAN just like you. chill out, relax.

Speak from the heart like you're only speaking to one person about the subject that you LOVE.

I'm part of Toastmaster's International but that doesn't guarantee you a practice speaking time each meeting. so you have to take the initiative and do some practicing yourself.

You can look over the audience as a moving picture and concentrate in a focal point while turning around to pretend that you are looking at them until you can look at the audience.

Toastmasters is an excellent solution. All people can benefit by this great group, and it's teachings. This will help you tremendously.
