Like in countries like Iran and Pakistan. This intrigues me for some reason...

well i'm from Pakistan and and sadly this is practice (rather was practised) in some rural and backward areas, however, the trend has reduced to almost minimal now - I'm talking about engagements before the child(ren) is (are) born.

As far Arranged marriage is concerned, it is a custom and common practice not only in Pakistan and Iran but also in India, and in Middle eastern countries as well as in many other countries.

I would say that it's part of culture and it is successfull in our societies.

"No hate and no looking down at any culture or religion"

Bless you all

I'm against it. I believe everyone has the right to choose there mate and having parents choose them for them is quite pathetic. Maybe it worked for the parents 20yrs ago but today is a much different world what if you are arranged to marry someone but you are gay how is that going to work?.

I think these countries need to learn worldwide customs and allow there woman and there men the right to find love on there own terms and conditions. Really what if you are to marry by the age of 25 what if you do not want to marry at any age.

Really what would these parents had a child who wanted to change there religion and join a convent.

Life should be about choices not this pre-arranged crap.

Apu the guy who works in the store who doensn't take checks from Homer said it's 20% divorce rate. It's a cultural thing, if you are born in that culture you don't care. At least that's what I would think, I have meet people from other cultures on where they are supposed to act like saints but if they are in a country where they can be free like United States, they do things they wouldn't be able to do in their countries and are so happy for that. In my case, I don't even support the idea of getting married the one I can find and I can consider the best person of my life, how much would I support knowing there is someone out there, that I like it or not, regardless if she is hot or not, without knowing if she cares or not about me, doesn't even know what my hobbies are, doesn't know in what place I arrived in a particular bicycle race, doesn't know what's my favorite desert is, I don't even know if she can make french fries which is a break deal to me (kind of) would like to married me?. I think I have just answered the question to myself if I agree with prearranged marriage, my answer is absolutely NOT. I'd preffer a million times to face 50% chances of divorce versus 20% but be with who I want. I love things this way.

I think that many times they work! We here in America think our way is the best...meet, fall in love, get married, get divorced.

Atleast in the other countries the parents try to find someone who will match you and who you can grow to love.

Love is a decision anyways. Either way if you had a pre-arranged marriage or not you have to chose to either love or continue to love your spouse.

I know quite a few people who have had pre-arranged marriages and are very happy and since it is so important for their families there is not usually any divorce, which we can all agree there is too much of in the USA

I think that it's horrible!!! I wouldn't want someone telling me that I'm GOING to marry someone that I don't love! It's my LIFE and my CHOICE! I talked with someone on here recently that was an arranged marriage and he wasn't very happy!
