If you or the person your talking to is a known terrorists or has ties to terrorist activities then yes. They should be able to listen and listen without a warrant in my opinion. I know dems want us to believe that they are listening to Granny and Aunt Bee talking about Thanksgiving dinner but that's bs.... Which come to think of it. BS comes form dems quite often...

If there is probable cause to believe we are involved in some sort of illegal activity, and the necessary legal steps have been taken to establish this and attain a warrant, then yes. To anyone who believes that a warrant impedes important investigations which need to be done quickly, please realize that the agencies have always been able to immediately begin an investigation/tap and get a retroactive warrant up to several weeks after the action has been taken. The ONLY reason for the desire to listen without warrants is that they want to be able to listen in on anyone and everyone they feel like, including peaceful citizens who have committed the "crime" of criticizing the administration or being a political opponent. They want to be able to collate a list of all potential "insurgents" with impunity. If they had to folow the law, they know that warrants would not be granted to listen in on granny from the local peace movement. It has nothing to do with terrorists and everything to do with keeping up on what you and I are up to.

The government was established to SERVE the people by protecting the freedom and liberty granted to each inidividual by the Constitution. Unwarranted wire tapping would be a violation of your 4th amendment rights.....THE GOVT. DOESN'T OWN YOU. If you're a taxpayer, YOU OWN THEM!!! Spread the good word....Ron Paul 08
If your implying the adult population needs 'monitering' we have a bigger issue. Either you're an adult or you're not....You either live with freedom (existence without bondage) or you don't. As soon as you start sacrificing basic rights for 'protection'.....it's the beginning of the end. Look at the history of Germany and the Nazi Party.....politically, its eerily similar to what's happening in our own Federal Govt.

The government has no right to listen to private conversations because it is an intrusion into the privacy of individuals which is protected by the Constitution.

have they been listening to yours? Anyone you know? Anyone anyone you know knows? I didn't think so. I'm sure there are more important things to worry about. The odds of you getting killed by a drunk driver this eve or a airplane crashing into your home in 10 minutes are much higher than the odss the gov't listening to your conversations.
Unless you are a terrorist, of course!

Freedom means that the government does not have the power to intrude in our lives without due process of law. If they have a reason to spy on you, they can get a warrant from a Judge.

Every time the government wants to intrude in your life, the answer is always "its for your own good" or "its for your own protection." How long are we as a society going to act like turtles with our head up our *ss?
