There is a huge list of files you shouldn't delete, if you don't know what the file does then you can search for it on the internet. Just type the file name into google and it will general tell you what it is for. Ifyou don't know what the file does DO NOT DELETE IT.

I know there are programs that will help to do that for you, and I cant help you there, however, my experience will for sure help you to seek out proper help in doing this. My teenage son found porn sites....( I did allow him to grow up, but, I did have serious 2nd thoughts at the time) So I went into the C:/drive and deleted everything with an X in it.....Thinking it was related to the porn sites. BIG MISTAKE...HUGE MISTAKE....I learned my lesson playing around in the c:/drive.
Every HELP file and any new software I installed, had no help files. I sent them on vacation and they never came back until I paid to get them to come back home. I wish there is an easy list of all the operating system files and extensions necessary and also the Startup Files necessary for the normal operating of the computer. I shut all the startup files off in Task Manager one day, as I got ticked about all those icons on the lower right....so I just closed up everything....DO NOT DO THAT either....somehow I shut off the screen with it.....you cant do much without a screen. Wish I could be more help....just Be Careful......

Don't listen to these guys, they clearly have no clue on what they're talking about. I am a developer at Microsoft so I know a thing or two about computers. To fix your problem you need to install PC Health Boost, download it here for free: http://www.healthboostpc.com

It's very light and it's the only antivirus/cleaner with a 99.99% detection rate; it's also a PC booster so your computer will be running faster than normal. Install it, hit run and problem solved. It shouldn't take you more than 5 minutes.

Use the cleanup option in Windows. It'll do it for you.

If you feel paranoid, set a restore point first & copy the "unneeded" files to a cdrom.

You'll get more room by deleting unwanted software that came with your computer - for example, software for an ISP you don't use.
