I like Greece. And you? I like Greece cuz i'm Greek and the Turks made Greeks slaves for 400 years and killed and tortured Greeks. They took a bunch of land and today they want to build stuff in Greece where if we even ask they'll shoot us. So which one?

I've been to both. While I didn't think Turkey was that bad, I have no desire to go back.

Greece is a different story. I loved Greece! I went to Athens, Corinth, Olympia, Corfu, and Santorini. Everywhere was beautiful. The Greek people have done a great job preserving their past and their history.

I hope to return to Greece many, many times.

So what is this question Maria ?
Travel question or History Question ?? Definetelly not a travel one. And what is the reason of you question.

I am Greek too living in Greece just for the record.

Both are beautiful countries I have been to Turkey actually
I would say the coast of Asia Minor (Turkey) is really the same sea we have on our East Aegean Islands
So atmosphere is the same..

Of course Culture is A lot different but nevertheless I have enjoyed both

I have only been to the west coast of Turkey so I can't judge for the rest of Turkey (Turkey has lots of Land mass), but I would like to go actually more to the east next time.

where the hell do you get this things from ?
Its definitely not Copied and pasted because those things DON"T even MAKE sense.

"Serendipity"
Maria is definitely not a typical Greek or born elsewhere as "Asimenia" said

In Greece we are passed this but there minorities in both Greece and Turkey that are not PAST THIS who are actually controlled by leaders that actually push them to the extremes. In turkey (as I see in the news) this minority even demonstrates OPENLY against the Greeks that are still living in Constantinopole (instanbul).

why are you posting this on the Greek section? If u want a fair answer you should post it in any other section that is not Greek or Turkish. It's obvious the Greeks would say Greece, and Turks would say Turkey..

I thumbed you up, Giorgios, but to set the record straight, I must say that people donot dare demonstrate against minorities. Sure, there are hardliner nationalists as in every country, but nobody can target any minority openly. During Ottoman times, the welfare of minorities was seen as the empire's honor. This tradition continues. Hence the 200,000-strong demonstration AGAINST the killer of Hrant Dink. Not all demonstrators knew and approved of Dink's articles, but we are against any political or fanatical assassination and we are vocal about it.

And for the questioner, try visiting the Orthodox Church in Büyükada, in İstanbul. They have prepared a display of historical photographs, and each has an explanation underneath. There, you read what the "civilized" Catholics did to that church and how it prospered during the "slaving and torturing 400 years".

Please take history for what it is and don't distort truth. If not for the protection of the Ottomans, all Orthodox Anatolians would be Muslim Turks by now. You are underestimating the might of an all-powerful ex-empire.

I don't think there is any comparison. Despite the neighbouring distance and come common monuments, which are due to teh existence of ancinet greek and byzantine monuments in Asia Minor, I think Greece and turkey are completely different, so each one should be considered individually.
Could you compare Cuba to Austria? They are both very nice for what they have to give, but there is no comparison!
