Ha, I posted this before I saw the other person's response... content management systems are also a good way to go. If you want to get into html programming, not necessarily, but if you mainly just want to get a site up and running, a content management system is probably a good way to go- I've heard good things about them.

Okay, these may seem like dumb suggestions but it depends on just where you are starting from (what level of tech experience, if you have money to hire someone, etc.).

IF you want to make it yourself, seriously, pick up a Dummies book and other how-to html books. That's how I got started and it helped ease my mind and educate me in a low stress way. Do this while working on the computer, not just reading.

You can make it either completely hand-coded, or using an html editor (highly recommended). Find an application that fits your budget and use the tutorials that come with the application, which are frequently found under the Help menu. These are a great way to get your toes wet. There are also many tutorials online for various apps. A lot of people like myself use Dreamweaver but I'm sure you can get by on a number of applications.

IF the most important thing is getting a professional site online, you could hire someone via a site like elance.com. People will bid on projects they want to get hired for- but look at their reviews and portfolios very carefully before choosing, so you don't get burnt.

If you have the time and the interest, I would suggest a combination of the first two- learn a little about html but use an editor. This way you can edit your html code and know what you are doing.

Hope this helps.

I’m using a great online company called Sitesell. This is the very first time I have ever built a website, so I needed a company who could take me by the hand, step by step!

I have nothing but praise for them! They make EVERYTHING so easy! They supply all of the online training, simple (yet incredibly sophisticated tools) and excellent support.

There is small annual hosting fee to pay but that includes all of the above plus your domain registration. They even supply the templates for designing your site! And don't worry about html coding or other techy stuff as that's all taken care of for you!

My site is only 18 months old. but It’s already very highly ranked by the major search engines and is attracting more than 30,000 visitors a month…..and rising! Plus it generates an income which not only well exceeds the costs, but actually shows a very healthy profit!

You can get more details from my information page at:

microsoft office allow you a free website domain name and a free website up to so many GB's with about 5 e mail addresses so you could have a look at that first and see how you do as it has templates etc. try google along the lines of windows microsoft office website or micfosoft free website. there was also a question on here recently that was about a business starting up that wanted advertising and there was some really good advice so try searching for questions on here too and you might come accross it, no website will work for you unless people know it's there, also attend wedding fairs etc, do leaflet drops and maybe something to do with a charity then contact the local paper.
Good luck, with hard work anything is possible.

If you're a non-programmer, and don't know much HTML, the best solution is to use a content management system. I recommend Drupal.

You have to have a web host that has PHP and MySQL. If you're paying for web hosting, you most likely already have it.

Drupal:
http://drupal.org/

You will need to:
Download Drupal from drupal.org
Download any modules you need.
Download any themes you need.
Upload Drupal (usually via FTP - I recommend FileZilla)
Create a database for your drupal install.
Install Drupal
Upload any modules or themes you've downloaded.
Enable any modules or themes you've uploaded.
Configure you site.

**** MODULES ****
Here is the list of modules:
http://drupal.org/project/Modules
You have a few options for a gallery, such as "Brilliant Gallery" "Flash gallery", and "Gallery", plus more.

Instructions for installing a module:

Instructions for enabling a module:

**** THEMES ****
After you have done that, you want to make sure it doesn't look like Drupal.org, so you'll want to install a theme. Installing and enabling themes are similar to enabling modules.

**** CONFIGURATION ****
This is beyond the scope of this answer, but there are lots of tutorials and documentation out there. Here's a good place to start:

You have an ISP (Inernet Service Provider) They probably offer a free web service. So create a word doument in the form that you require and click on save as. Now change the Save as type to Web page and save the document. You have now created a web page. Follow the instructions from your isp to create a web page.

Job done!

If you want a professional web page then you need professional graphics. Now you need professional help from a graphic designer.

Good luck.
