This is a no-brainer -- The best possible place to buy shares of pepsi is from Pepsi's bank transfer agent directly! (the Pepsico Direct purchase plan). I believe this would cost an initial enrollment fee of a whopping $10 (still less than many brokerages charge). However the plan allows for free reinvestment of dividends, as well as the ability to send in additional $ to buy even more pepsi shares free of commissions (why stop at 50 shares?). There are also many other perks like being able to transfer shares to others and to withdraw paper certificates from the plan to put into a brokerage account (I dont think these cost anything).

You can even enroll in the plan online at:

Here's the PDF on the plan detail itself.

At your brokerage company.

According to Yahoo! Finance, about $3900. The stock ticker is PEP and it is $77 per share.

I agree with Craig's answer, except my experience shows that you have a bit of a liquidity issue if you want or NEED to sell the security. This can be a double-edged sword since it can guide you not to sell because you want to make a impulse purchase.

I did use a DRIP service called Equiserve (now called Computershare) until I could amass a sizeable enough account to invest at a brokerage firm of many publically trade securites. They do not handle Pepsico, however.

PEP is correct, not PBG... PBG is pepsi's bottling group...
As far as brokerage wise, go w/ scottrade... 7 bucks a trade.. not bad.
