Could be. When a defense lawyer represents a thief or murderer and the lawyer know his client is guilty they lie and
do anything to get their client free! They could care less if
their client is found not guilty and goes out and does the same thing again. So perhaps you are correct.

I'm a law student. My primary reason to become a lawyer is to help people. I went to a private Catholic undergraduate school. Although I am not Catholic, I appreciated the high end education and the good character the school instilled in their students, (Not religious) but as a person in general.

For those who assume that all lawyers are greedy and opportunistic, you are sadly mistaken. The ones who give the profession a bad name are a small percentage, however they seem to get the most publicity. Pro bono lawyers rarely make national headlines.

When you graduate law school, all prospective lawyers are required to fill out a moral character application that is more than 30 pages long, as well as pass the bar exam. For the immoral ones who slip through the cracks; they are an embarrassment to the profession.

Edit: And to more directly answer the question, many theological doctrines are logic based. The balance between religion and legal analysis are more closely related than many might think.

There are only 8% of the US that are either Atheist or Agnostic, so I do not think that your hypothathys is correct.

Many now realize that both science and religion can co-exist.
